Director-General Jeong Yeon-doo of MFA Meets with Swedish Special Envoy for Korean Peninsula Affairs

Director-General Jeong Yeon-doo of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Bureau of Diplomatic Strategy and Intelligence met with Peter Semneby, Sweden's Special Envoy for Korean Peninsula Affairs, who was visiting Seoul on the 10th. Director-General Jeong highly praised Sweden's contributions to promoting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, including operating an embassy in North Korea. Special Envoy Semneby explained Sweden's diplomatic efforts concerning the Korean Peninsula issue and stated that close communication with the South Korean side will continue.

This meeting took place amidst rising geopolitical tensions surrounding the Korean Peninsula. Both sides shared the view that a united international response is necessary regarding North Korea's ongoing provocations. Director-General Jeong emphasized that Sweden's mediation efforts could play a crucial role in preventing miscalculations by North Korea and keeping the door for dialogue open. Special Envoy Semneby affirmed that Sweden will continue to play a constructive role towards the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the establishment of lasting peace.

This meeting served as an opportunity to reaffirm Sweden's sustained interest and engagement in the Korean Peninsula peace process. Both sides will continue to share relevant developments and explore joint response measures through regular working-level consultations.
