Criticism has emerged within the Democratic Party over remarks made by its leader, Jung Chung-rae, who stated, "The people are eternal, regimes are short-lived." The statement, made amidst maneuvering between factions vying for party leadership ahead of the upcoming national convention to elect a new party leader, has been criticized as inappropriate for the leader of a ruling party. Lawmakers Moon Jin-suk and others expressed concerns, stating, "We are deeply worried about our party's future," while Kim Yong-min also posted on social media, suggesting Jung should have said, "Party members are eternal, and party power is short-lived," in a move seen as a check on Jung.

Democratic Party leader Jung Chung-rae made the remark "The people are eternal, regimes are short-lived" during a supreme council meeting, stating, "The attitude of examining public sentiment should always be our basic stance, whether we are the ruling or opposition party." This statement was identical to one made following the Constitutional Court's impeachment of then-President Yoon Suk-yeol in April.

Appearing on MBC radio, Democratic Party lawmaker Park Jie-won urged, "We call on leader Jung Chung-rae and the rest of the leadership to resign en masse and declare they will not run for re-election."

Attention is now focused on how these remarks will further amplify internal conflicts within the party.
