South Korea and the United States reaffirmed their shared objective of dismantling North Korea's nuclear weapons during the 6th Nuclear Consultative Group (NCG) meeting held in Seoul on the 11th, and detailed future cooperation plans. The two countries agreed to continuously develop NCG activities to strengthen the ROK-U.S. alliance and extended deterrence amidst North Korea's advancing nuclear and missile capabilities and the evolving security environment. The U.S. reaffirmed its commitment to provide extended deterrence to South Korea, utilizing all categories of capabilities, including nuclear ones.

During this meeting, the 'ROK-U.S. Nuclear Consultative Group Security Guidelines' were signed to protect information necessary for NCG activities and consultations. Various measures were discussed, including Nuclear-Conventional Integration (CNI) exercises and training, strategic messaging, and risk reduction.

The results of the meeting are scheduled to be reported to the ministers of both countries at the 58th ROK-U.S. Security Consultative Meeting (SCM) to be held this fall. The NCG's tasks and key activities for the second half of 2026, including plans for the 7th NCG plenary session, were also approved.
