No Fatalities Reported Amid Widespread Damage from Strong Winds and Heavy Rain
Strong winds and heavy rain swept across various parts of the country on the 20th, causing a series of facility damage and traffic disruptions, though no human casualties were reported.
In Busan, amidst a strong wind advisory, facility damage including 8 tree falls, factory flooding, falling signs, and vehicle damage occurred. Strong gusts exceeding 26 m/s were recorded in Nam-gu and Jung-gu.
In Gangwon Province, heavy rainfall totaling up to 149.5 mm led to a heavy rain advisory, resulting in the closure of high-altitude trails in Seoraksan National Park and disruptions to parts of the Gangneung Danoje festival. The Seoraksan National Park office of the Korea National Park Service fully closed high-altitude trails due to the upgraded heavy rain warning. Concentrated rainfall in the Gangneung region affected the Gangneung Danoje festival schedule, with the festival committee canceling the Gangwon Youth Activity Festival and the swing competition planned for the 20th, and moving the essay and drawing competitions indoors. As of 9 AM that day, the Gangwon Provincial Fire Department had received reports of 3 fallen trees and 3 instances of sewage backup.
In Jeju, damage continued with trees falling due to strong winds and parts of Hallasan National Park trails being closed. Although the rain, which had been falling mainly in Jeju's mountainous regions, subsided, strong winds persisted into the afternoon. A strong wind advisory remains in effect across Jeju's land areas. Reports of fallen trees were received due to the strong winds, and 5 out of the 7 trails in Hallasan National Park were closed.
