Incheon City Takes Action Against 'Lovebug' Nuisance

A forum was organized to discuss measures against the Red-striped Velvet Midge, commonly known as 'lovebugs,' which have recently surged in the Incheon area, causing inconvenience to citizens. Incheon City sought ways to resolve living discomfort with experts and civic groups to reduce citizen inconvenience caused by lovebugs and build a long-term response system.

The meeting shared ecological information about lovebugs and provided guidance on physical prevention methods that citizens can implement, such as reinforcing window screens and adjusting lighting brightness. Eco-friendly pest control policies that consider the environment and methods to encourage citizen participation through the establishment of a public-private-research cooperation system were discussed.

Based on the discussions, Incheon City will focus on minimizing daily discomfort and alleviating citizens' psychological anxiety by producing public relations materials based on scientific data and expanding educational and promotional programs. Through these discussions, Incheon City aims to establish a long-term and sustainable management system to prepare for insect outbreaks due to environmental factors like climate change, not just to resolve short-term inconveniences.
