Gwangju Military Airport Site Evaluated as Optimal Location for Semiconductor Factory

Gwangju Military Airport has been confirmed as the optimal site for the Honam semiconductor cluster, an area drawing the attention of the presidential office.

Samsung Electronics and the SK Group plan to establish semiconductor fabrication plants (fabs) at this location, and President Lee Jae-myung has ordered land acquisition, including forced requisition, to expedite the process.

Gwangju Military Airport possesses a total area of 8.2 million square meters, including the air force runway and ammunition depot grounds, making it advantageous for the construction of large-scale factories. It is also considered the most suitable candidate site in terms of transportation, living conditions, and water supply.
