Police on the 7th relieved Inspector A, the head of the violent crimes team in charge of the Jang Yoon-ki case, and placed the entire investigation team on standby status. Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station placed a total of six people, including the station chief, the head of the criminal division, and four members of the investigation team, on standby. The National Police Agency has formed a special investigation team, led by the officer in charge of investigation and human rights at headquarters, at the Gwangju Police Agency to investigate the allegations.

Inspector A is suspected of failing to properly secure evidence, such as cable ties suspected to be abduction tools, during the vehicle search and seizure process while investigating the Jang Yoon-ki case. Inspector A is also under suspicion for instructing a team member to delete video footage obtained from inside the vehicle. The Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office conducted a search and seizure of the Gwangsan Police Station on the same day.

Police have applied for an arrest warrant for Inspector A on charges of evidence destruction, and a warrant substantive examination will be held at the Gwangju District Court on the morning of the 8th.
