Byun Jung-soo Reaps Profits from SK Hynix Stock Bought on AI Recommendation
Actress Byun Jung-soo has become a topic of conversation after revealing her 'AI investment method,' which involved consulting ChatGPT and buying SK Hynix stock to earn a profit. In a recent YouTube video, she explained how she bought SK Hynix at 1.75 million won per share, generated a profit, and recovered her initial capital.
An increasing number of individual investors are utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT and Gemini to analyze corporate information or select stocks to buy. Cases go beyond simply analyzing company information and market trends to entrusting AI with portfolio management. According to a survey released in March by the US economic media outlet Investing.com, 62% of US individual investors utilize AI for investment decisions. In May of this year, it was reported that about 30% of investors use AI for portfolio management.
Housewife Mrs. A (42) and office worker Mr. B (35) revealed that they have experience using AI for stock investment. Mrs. A said she tried it out on a trial basis after hearing stories from people around her asking AI about stock trends or getting stock recommendations, adding that it helped her look at the overall flow and verify company information.
A joint research team from the University of Edinburgh, Sungkyunkwan University, and UCLA published a paper verifying investment strategies based on large language models over 20 years from 2004 to 2024. The study verified that active investment strategies involving frequent rebalancing do not outperform 'buy and hold' strategies in the long run. Professors from Italy's University of Rome Tor Vergata and the University of Georgia in the US also published a paper on AI tools for financial recommendations in the June issue of the Journal of Financial Planning by the US FP Association.
