Rep. Han Dong-hoon's TV Debate on Supplementary Investigation Authority with Democratic Party Fails to Materialize

Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon attempted to hold a television debate with the ruling Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) regarding the abolition of the 'supplementary investigation authority,' which allows prosecutors to reinvestigate a case without a court's warrant if they deem the initial investigation insufficient, but the plan ultimately fell through. The debate had been agreed upon between Rep. Han and DPK lawmaker Lee Geon-tae for a showdown on the 22nd regarding the abolition of supplementary investigation authority, but it was cancelled after Rep. Lee declared his absence.

Rep. Lee expressed his stance through Facebook that he could not ignore the concerns of party members, explaining his reason for not attending. Rep. Han countered that Lee fled because he was afraid of being pushed into a corner.

On day N, Rep. Han revealed via Facebook that JTBC, the organizer of the debate, had reached out to other DPK lawmakers to appear, but no one accepted. Furthermore, he was informed that Rep. Han's solo appearance was also difficult due to company circumstances. Rep. Han responded, "I understand," effectively bringing the related schedule to a close.
