She is facing mockery from critics who accuse her of intentionally changing her tone to court Southern voters, with some denouncing the Bronx native for acting like a Southern preacher.
The criticism mirrors past controversies involving Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris previously faced accusations of mimicking a Southern accent during a 2024 rally in Atlanta and a Labor Day event in Detroit.
Previously, Representative Ocasio-Cortez courted controversy for making gestures such as pulling a trigger to shoot a gun.
