LG AI Research and UNESCO are spearheading AI ethics education for a global audience. On the 20th, the 'AI Ethics MOOC' global education program was officially launched at the UNESCO Korean National Commission in Myeongdong, Seoul. UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Baek Kyung-hyun attended to emphasize the significance of the project.

This project marks the first instance where a Korean private AI research institute has partnered with a UN specialized agency to lead the entire process—from planning to content development—for a global education program. It is based on the 'Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence,' unanimously adopted by UNESCO's 193 member states in 2021.

Renowned experts from global institutions such as Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, Oxford, the Technical University of Munich, and the Alan Turing Institute are serving as lecturers, while specialists from 15 institutions, including Harvard and New York University, are providing advisory support. The 10-module, practice-oriented curriculum will be offered through Coursera, the online platform founded by Andrew Ng.

Beyond the online coursework, LG AI Research and UNESCO plan to expand the program into practice-oriented training. A pilot training program targeting AI developers and researchers will be operated in the second half of this year, with plans to expand to 5 to 10 key universities nationwide next year.
