Government Expands AI-based Emergency Patient Transport System... Builds Public Healthcare 'AI Expressway'

The government is changing the future of emergency medicine with artificial intelligence (AI). The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Science and ICT have jointly announced the 'AI Basic Medical Strategy' with other related ministries, expanding the emergency patient transport system nationwide and officially promoting the digital transformation of regional, essential, and public healthcare.

An 'Emergency Integrated AI Platform' will be utilized to recommend appropriate hospitals by analyzing real-time medical resource information starting from the ambulance transport stage. The system involves AI analyzing real-time information, such as hospital beds and medical staff, to recommend an appropriate transport hospital, after which medical personnel make the final decision on acceptance.

'AI Packages' featuring features such as automatic medical record generation will be introduced to public health centers in medically vulnerable areas, and 'Primary Care AX Vouchers' supporting the cost of using AI solutions will be provided to clinics specializing in essential medical care. The government also plans to promote data standardization by converting outdated hospital information systems to cloud-based platforms.

Starting in the second half of 2026, a 'Public Healthcare AI Expressway' connecting regional and regional responsibility medical institutions will be established and expanded to a total of 72 locations by 2029. Plans include the introduction of a 'National AI Health Secretary' that allows medical staff to access information and summarize medical records through 'My Health Record (PHR),' based on patient consent, thereby building a seamless system for sharing medical information between institutions.
