PPP Ethics Panel Excludes Simple Criticism of Party from Discipline…Penalties Only for Intentional, Repeated Offenses
The People Power Party's Central Ethics Committee decided at a meeting on the 22nd to exclude simple criticism of the party leader and the party from disciplinary action.
Through the meeting, the Ethics Committee reviewed roughly 60 disciplinary cases filed against incumbent lawmakers and others around the June 3 local elections but held off on initiating specific disciplinary procedures, focusing instead on establishing appropriate sentencing standards. However, the committee took a cautious approach, considering the potential deepening of internal party conflict and the possibility of legal battles.
It is understood that the precedent of Rep. Bae Hyun-jin's disciplinary action being nullified earlier this year in February also played a role.
