Young Conservatives' Support for PPP a 'Warning Choice' Driven by Anti-Progressive Sentiment
The phenomenon of voters in their 20s and 30s casting ballots for the conservative party during the June 3 local elections has been diagnosed as a 'warning choice' driven by antipathy toward the progressive camp rather than support for the People Power Party (PPP).
Director Bae diagnosed that if it were a genuine shift toward conservatism, favorability ratings should be rising; however, the current situation represents a reflexive benefit stemming from simple anger. He argued that without a shift in favorability, it cannot be viewed as an essential conservative shift.
Rep. Lee So-hee proposed that substantive policy responses—such as a youth deposit system, the relaxation of real estate loan regulations, and the introduction of a future generation impact assessment system—are necessary to prevent the youth vote from drifting away.
