Gamer-Turned-Engineer Launches Research into Medical AI to Aid Patients

Cho Hyun-jin, CEO of Rad Science and an engineering major who chose his field because of his love for gaming, has begun developing an AI medical research platform that connects medical data, prompted by a lower back injury. While pursuing a doctorate in computer science at the University of Iowa, Cho returned to South Korea for military service and suffered a back injury during training. After medical professionals recommended rehabilitation over surgery and he failed to feel the effects, he took it upon himself to read medical papers and search for treatment evidence tailored to his condition.

During the process of treating his injury, Cho realized that a patient's recovery curve changes only when the patient fully understands their own condition and takes the lead in treatment. This insight was so profound that it led to intensive research—resulting in a doctoral dissertation—and ultimately the founding of a startup. Cho officially incorporated the company on the 9th and shared his aspirations at the 43rd Korean Medical Association Annual General Assembly and Scientific Conference on July 12.

'Patients must fully understand their own bodies to work with doctors and establish a more effective treatment direction,' Cho stated, adding, 'I will continue to develop efficient technology that connects patients and doctors.'
