Longevity Technology Continues to Innovate
Researchers are striving to develop technologies for preserving organs outside the body for longer periods, aiming to address the shortage of organ donations. In a recent breakthrough, a research team successfully preserved a pig's kidney at minus 4 degrees Celsius for several days before transplanting it back into a pig, marking one of the latest achievements in organ preservation.
In the past, freezing organs often resulted in the formation of ice crystals within cells, causing tissue damage and rendering the organs unusable. To overcome this challenge, researchers have utilized cryopreservation techniques that vitrify cells, solidifying them like glass without ice crystal formation at very low temperatures.
