Windows 11 Security Issue: McAfee Automatically Installs When Connecting LG Monitors

When an LG monitor is connected without user consent, an app containing McAfee advertisements is automatically installed. According to an investigation by tech media outlet Gamers Nexus, a McAfee trial advertisement was displayed during this installation process without a separate consent prompt, appearing in 31 out of 32 system boots.

This automatic installation was made possible by the Hardware Support App system introduced by Microsoft. Upon connecting compatible hardware, manufacturer software is silently installed without any separate notification or consent window. It has been revealed that even internal Microsoft documents warned that this automatic installation method could cause user confusion.

The 'LG Monitor App Installer', officially registered on the Microsoft Store, was found to request access to all system resources and internet permissions upon installation. In response, LG Electronics clarified that its monitor app installer does not access, collect, or transmit users' personal data.
