Internal Turmoil in PPP Ethics Committee Derails Disciplinary Crackdown

People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk laid out disciplinary guidelines through the Central Ethics Committee following the June 3 local elections.

Following two meetings held on the 6th and the 22nd of this month, Central Ethics Committee Chair Yoon Min-woo announced criteria defining repeated and organized criticism against the party leader or the party as grounds for disciplinary action, doing so without a formal vote. This sparked internal backlash, causing a setback in the push to enforce party discipline.

Central Ethics Committee Vice Chair Woo Jong-hwan publicly rebuked Chair Yoon, accusing him of unilaterally announcing non-agreed matters, and demanded an apology. Senior Deputy Spokesperson Choi Bo-yoon stated that while there may be differing opinions among ethics committee members, the internal situation will be smoothly resolved.
