Justice Minister Chung Sung-ho Has Not Offered Resignation
The presidential office stated on Day N regarding news reports that Justice Minister Chung Sung-ho had offered his resignation, "There is no official confirmation regarding Minister Chung's resignation," adding, "It is not true." A presidential official gave this response during a meeting with reporters at the press center in Brasilia, where President Lee Jae-myung is currently on a state visit.
This indicates that, unlike his public expressions of intent to step down, no letter of resignation has been submitted to the presidential office, nor has his resignation been officially relayed to President Lee through formal procedures.
On the 27th, during a plenary session of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, Minister Chung effectively announced his intention to resign, citing health issues and sleep disorders, remarking, "Shouldn't new wine be poured into new wineskins?" He stated that he has repeatedly mentioned his intention to step down, noting that once the Public Prosecution Service and the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency are launched on October 2, 95 percent of prosecutorial reform will have been achieved.
