Chungnam Province upgrades heat wave alert, activates Disaster Headquarters Level 1 emergency response

As heat wave warnings were issued for most of the province, South Chungcheong Province has activated Level 1 emergency operations at the Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters to prevent casualties. The province is strengthening field surveillance activities, focusing on the elderly, single- and two-person households, and outdoor workers in the construction and agricultural sectors.

On the 1st at around 8:39 PM, Mr. A, a man in his 40s working indoors using a steamer in Seoknam-dong, Seosan City, suffered full-body muscle spasms and was transported to a hospital. Earlier that day at around 12:16 PM, Mr. B, a man in his 70s picking chili peppers in Imcheon-myeon, Buyeo County, also complained of dizziness and was moved to a hospital. According to fire authorities, a total of 10 heat-related patients were reported in the Chungnam region that day, five of whom were transported to hospitals.

Hong Jong-wan, the Administrative Deputy Governor of South Chungcheong Province, emphasized that they would mobilize all administrative resources to ensure that not a single casualty occurs. He urged vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and outdoor workers, to refrain from prolonged outdoor activities during daylight hours.
