Four Kyrgyz Children Recover Health After Heart Surgery in Incheon

Four children from Kyrgyzstan with congenital heart disease are recovering their health after successfully receiving free heart surgery with the help of Incheon City. This medical support was a collaboration between Incheon City, a domestic university hospital, and a private foundation, offering a new lease on life to children who faced difficulties in receiving treatment due to financial hardship.

Professor Choi Chang-hyu of the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Gil Medical Center, who performed the surgeries, stated that all four children were in urgent need of surgical intervention. Professor Choi explained that the children have successfully completed their surgeries and are currently in the recovery phase.

Incheon City has been implementing a medical support program targeting children from sister cities in Asia since 2007. Through this program, a total of 175 children have received free surgeries over the past 20 years, with medical personnel on the ground reaching an estimated 7,000 individuals.

Kim Young-shin, Director of Incheon City's International Cooperation Bureau, stated that this initiative has served as an opportunity to enhance the standing of Incheon and South Korea.
