Xi Jinping, Putin to Discuss 'Power of Siberia-2' Gas Pipeline Project in Sept. 31 Meeting

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on September 31 to discuss the 'Power of Siberia-2' gas pipeline project. During the summit, which runs until October 1, both sides will address outstanding issues for the project, on which an agreement was not reached during their summit in May.

The Russian side has indicated that discussions will include the possibility of finalizing an agreement on cooperation for the project. 'Power of Siberia-2' is a project to transport natural gas from Russia's Yamal Peninsula through Mongolia to China, which, upon completion, will enable an annual export of 50 billion cubic meters of gas.

The two nations plan to discuss key issues for advancing economic cooperation, including the gas pipeline project, during this meeting.
