AI Now Edits, Transmits, and Relays Live Broadcasts

AI now edits, transmits, and relays broadcasts. The scope of AI use is widening across every stage of broadcasting, from transmission (delivering broadcasts to viewers) to live coverage (relaying scenes from the field in real time). The Korea Communications Commission and the Korea Radio Promotion Association confirmed these changes at the "2026 Broadcast Media AI Innovation Talent Development Seminar" held in Seoul on the 10th.

Changes on broadcast program production sets are a prime example. The SBS drama "Manager Kim" applied AI to designing the screen composition of complex action scenes and implementing a range of directing approaches. MBC's variety show "Rookie Director Kim Yeon-kyung," selected last year as a broadcast program production support project, was also introduced as a case of AI being used in the production process.

AI's reach has now extended beyond the production room. Real-time AI subtitling and on-screen commentary technology are set to be deployed for the broadcast of the 2026 World Cup in North America, and a case of producing and airing radio news based on AI-generated voices was also presented. An AI remover introduced in post-production automatically erases specific objects, automating tasks that people once carried out repetitively.

At the venue, demonstrations of broadcast production equipment took place, including an AI content creation platform and digital twin solutions (technology that recreates real-world environments in virtual space), allowing participants to experience AI-based tools firsthand.
