Government Spent 1.3 Trillion Won Over 6 Years on Farm and Livestock Product Discounts
The government has poured 1.3 trillion won over six years into discount programs that lower the prices of agricultural and livestock products. The related budget grew more than 25-fold over the six-year period, from 18 billion won in 2020 to 458 billion won this year.
The figures were confirmed through data obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs by the office of Rep. Kang Seung-kyu of the People Power Party, a member of the National Assembly's Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, Oceans and Fisheries Committee.
On the 4th, a notice announcing government discount support was posted at a large supermarket in Seoul, where mackerel was being sold at a price reduced by 3,580 won thanks to government support. Cases such as this posted discount notice confirm that discount support for farm and livestock products is actually translating into lower prices for consumers.
