Jang Dong-hyuk denounces film 'Assassin(s)' at Yuk Young-soo's birthplace: 'Denying legitimacy'
Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, visited the birthplace of the late Yuk Young-soo in Okcheon County, North Chungcheong Province, on Friday, taking issue with the film 'Assassin(s),' which depicts Yuk's fatal shooting, calling it "an attempt to deny the legitimacy of the Republic of Korea." Jang emphasized that the left's slandering of former Presidents Syngman Rhee and Park Chung-hee amounts to denying even the founding of the Republic of Korea and its industrialization, and warned that leaving historical distortion unchecked would pose a threat to liberal democracy.
House Deputy Speaker Park Deok-heum urged the film's producers and distributors to apologize to the bereaved family and the public and to halt screenings immediately, saying, "The distorted historical view left by the film will be remembered for generations to come."
The People Power Party plans to send a letter, signed by all of its lawmakers, to the Singapore International Film Festival requesting the withdrawal of 'Assassin(s)' as its opening film.
