Amid the Storm, the 'AI Value Investing Portfolio' Has Survived

It was a turbulent day for Asian markets. On the 15th, the KOSPI plunged 7.57% in a single day to the 5,500 level, while the KOSDAQ also fell more than 7%. U.S. markets showed signs of a rebound, with the Dow rising over 1%, but the Nasdaq and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index continued to lag, heightening market tension. Amid this turmoil, the 'AI Value Investing Portfolio' is still recording a cumulative return of +52.19%. That said, it has indeed entered a correction phase, with assets shrinking from the 1.2 trillion won range over the past five days.

AI Value Investing Portfolio performance chart

Assets Once Soared to $16,000, Now Showing Signs of Correction

Looking at the portfolio's asset trajectory, it peaked at $16,284 on October 12 before beginning to slide. As of the 15th, total assets stood at $15,218, roughly $1,000 below the peak. Of course, maintaining a 52% return on the initial capital of $10,000 remains impressive. The sharp drop on the 14th, which saw assets fall nearly $800 in a single day, directly reflected correction pressures across the semiconductor sector as a whole. Crash days are frightening, but they are arguably the fate of a growth-stock-heavy portfolio.

AMD and NVIDIA stand out. AMD has risen nearly threefold from its purchase price, but its price-to-earnings level exceeds 150, showing just how much growth expectations have been priced in. NVIDIA, by contrast, can still be assessed as attractively valued relative to growth, with a growth-adjusted metric of 0.27. Micron, with a low earnings multiple in the low teens and a growth-adjusted figure of just 0.16, is regarded as the most undervalued asset amid strong HBM4 supply and demand. Intel, however, still posts negative earnings per share, making a rebound the key question.

The recent trading pattern is clear. The portfolio has steadily reduced its exposure to 3x leveraged products such as SOXL and TQQQ, using the proceeds to add quality individual stocks like Micron and NVIDIA. In particular, the repeated purchases of Micron express conviction in the memory supercycle. It reads as a strategic reallocation aimed at reducing leverage risk during a period of heightened volatility and concentrating on undervalued assets.

Market Outlook: Higher Rates, Heavier Growth Stocks

With the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield above 5%, valuation pressure on growth stocks persists. That said, rising gold futures point to a clear preference for safe havens, and the won/dollar exchange rate holding around 1,340 reflects vigilance against external shocks. Oil prices continuing to climb could reignite inflation concerns. Heightened volatility is likely to persist in the short term, but a strategy built around undervalued assets like this portfolio is expected to demonstrate relative resilience during the correction.
