No Huawei Without OFILM
OFILM makes the 'eyes' of Huawei. The company responsible for the cameras in Huawei's premium flagship smartphones is OFILM, a Chinese optical components maker. OFILM has established itself as a key supplier of main camera modules (components combining a camera's lens and sensor) and periscope telephoto camera modules (cameras that fold light like a submarine periscope to capture distant subjects with a slim body) for the Huawei Pura series.
OFILM's business map is expanding beyond smartphones. After entering the automotive business in 2015, it built on its camera and optical lens capabilities to expand its automotive electronics business into three areas: driving, body electronics, and smart cockpit. In the driving domain, it supplies automotive cameras, millimeter-wave radar, driver monitoring system (DMS), and occupant monitoring system (OMS) cameras. In body electronics, it handles body domain controllers, gateway modules, and digital keys, while in the smart cockpit segment it supplies digital instrument clusters, central control displays, and streaming mirror products.
This diversification strategy is also reflected in its earnings. OFILM's first-half 2026 revenue fell 20.29% year-on-year to 7.841 billion yuan. Smartphone business revenue dropped 24.50% to 5.615 billion yuan, with its share of total revenue declining from 74.85% in 2025 to 71.61%. Smart automotive revenue also fell 35.03% to 820 million yuan, shrinking to 10.46% of the total. Meanwhile, new business revenue rose 25.52% year-on-year to 1.387 billion yuan, with its share of total revenue growing from 12.53% in 2025 to 17.68%. As smartphone and automotive revenues declined, the new business has emerged as a growth pillar.
In its annual report, OFILM highlighted its achievements in developing and mass-producing advanced optical products, including high-resolution main cameras and periscope telephoto modules.
