Trump's Approval Rating Falls to 33%, Lowest of His Second Term
U.S. President Donald Trump's job approval rating has fallen to 33%, the lowest of his second term. In a poll commissioned by The Washington Post and ABC News and conducted by the survey firm Ipsos, released on the 18th local time, 33% of respondents approved of Trump's performance while 66% disapproved. A survey released by NBC News the same day also recorded an all-time low of 34%. With his approval rating dipping into the low 30s, the burden on the Republican Party ahead of the midterm elections has grown.
The Ipsos poll pointed to economic issues, including high prices, as the main reason for the decline. Negative assessments of Trump's economic policies reached 70%, and disapproval of his handling of the cost of living climbed to 77%. Deteriorating perceptions of personal finances also showed up in the numbers: 48% of respondents in the Ipsos survey said their financial situation had worsened since Trump's return to office.
When asked which party they prefer to control Congress, respondents favored Democrats over Republicans 58% to 39%, a 19-percentage-point gap. The survey was conducted from the 9th to the 13th among 2,545 U.S. adults, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
