Chief presidential press secretary Kang Yu-jung relayed that President Lee began by telling Kim, "Thank you for your hard work," and added, "The CIO must earn public recognition for the reason it exists," and "You must always remember that many people are watching."
During a conversation after the ceremony, Song Doo-hwan, special investigator of the October 29 Itaewon tragedy, and the Itaewon disaster were discussed. President Lee asked whether there remained aspects of the tragedy that the public still found puzzling, and asked that those concerns be fully resolved.
