PPP's Jang Dong-hyuk Criticizes President Lee Jae-myung Over National Pension Investment Losses
People Power Party Chairman Jang Dong-hyuk on Sunday launched an offensive against President Lee Jae-myung and the government over losses in the National Pension Fund investment, calling it "the Lee Jae-myung pump-and-dump scam."
PPP lawmakers on the National Assembly's Special Committee on Pension Reform and the Strategy and Finance Committee issued a joint statement Sunday morning, describing the pension losses as "a pension fund casino" run with citizens' retirement savings. "Retail investors have shed tears of blood, and future generations are left holding the bomb," they wrote.
The lawmakers demanded the immediate resignation of Health and Welfare Minister Jung Eun-kyung, who chairs the fund's management committee. They also directed demands at the president, stating, "The people must be given a clear answer as to whether the National Pension was mobilized for the political purposes of the administration." They urged President Lee, saying he "viewed the National Pension as his own personal slush fund from the start" and called on him to "personally explain himself to the people and sincerely apologize for undermining the independence of the National Pension and the public's trust."
