President Lee Jae-myung Orders 'Selection and Focus' in Publicizing Government Achievements
President Lee Jae-myung has called for 'selection and focus' in the government's public relations approach, urging officials to concentrate on what matters most rather than offering a 'department-store-style list of achievements.' Speaking at the 45th closed-door Cabinet meeting held at the presidential office in Cheong Wa Dae on the 20th, Lee stressed that publicizing government achievements is a crucial foundation for winning public persuasion and support, and urged an overall improvement in government publicity efforts, Senior Presidential Secretary for Press Affairs Kang Yu-jung said in a written briefing.
The president directly instructed Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Choi Hwi-young, who oversees publicity affairs, to make improvements. Lee told the minister, "Since there are so many government achievements, there is a need for selection and focus rather than listing them like a department store catalog." He added, "Please move government publicity away from the old methods and transform it into an impactful, contemporary style of communication."
Accordingly, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is known to have recently examined whether two-way briefings could be introduced within this year for the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Fair Trade Commission, among others. Cheong Wa Dae reportedly ordered all ministries and agencies to adopt two-way briefings.
Sung Ki-hong, Senior Presidential Secretary for Public Communication, told SBS that day, "The basic philosophy of the administration of national sovereignty is transparency, accountability, and openness in policy," explaining that ministries simply need to carry out their work in line with that spirit.
