Cho Kuk: 'If We Stay Silent, They'll See Us as Suckers'... Pressures Democratic Party to Impeach Chief Justice Jo Hee-de
Cho Kuk, head of the Rebuilding Korea Party's Innovation Policy Research Institute, has pushed the Democratic Party to impeach Supreme Court Chief Justice Jo Hee-de. Appearing on the YouTube show 'Choi Wook's Mae Bul Show' on the 22nd, Cho pressured the Democratic Party to move forward with impeachment, saying, "If we let this slide, Chief Justice Jo Hee-de will see President Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party as suckers." He emphasized, "Impeachment prosecution (the process of requesting an impeachment trial) is the only means by which the National Assembly can express its will," adding, "We must put the brakes on Chief Justice Jo so he cannot act as he pleases for the rest of his term."
Cho argued that while Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok may worry about a backlash if an impeachment motion is filed, there have been many cases in the past where impeachment motions were dismissed without any such backlash. Cho recalled, "During the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, we impeached Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and several ministers, and many of those cases were dismissed."
On the 19th, Shin Jang-sik, leader of the Rebuilding Korea Party, publicly unveiled an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Jo Hee-de and proposed that the Democratic Party form a joint task force and hold a joint lawmakers' meeting. Shin cited as grounds for impeachment the remand ruling in President Lee Jae-myung's election law violation case when he was a presidential candidate, the rejection of the re-nomination of a Supreme Court justice candidate, and his refusal to testify at a National Assembly audit.
