The Chinese AI hacking tool 'Artext' has attacked some 80 Japanese companies. Around 80 companies in Japan's finance, insurance, and logistics sectors were targeted in cyberattacks using the Chinese AI tool 'Artext.' Traces of the tool were found on six attack servers, and eight of the targeted companies are believed to have actually suffered data breaches.

A cyberattack has now been added as a new source of friction to China-Japan relations, already strained over the Taiwan issue.

With China's rare earth export controls affecting Japan's key industries, Tokyo has asked Washington to cooperate in securing supplies. The price of yttrium, used in aircraft engines and semiconductor equipment, has surged 179-fold outside China over the past two years.
