Kim Wi-geun Stresses Journalism's Pursuit of Truth in the AI Era
The Gyeonggi Journalists Club held a lecture this morning, inviting Kim Wi-geun, Chief Research Officer at PUBLISH, who argued that AI can enhance journalism's social utility.
Kim stressed that AI is specialized in content production using existing data and that the essence of journalism lies in pursuing truth beyond simple fact-checking. He explained that the social utility of journalists and media organizations must be derived from this pursuit of truth.
Kim further asserted that AI technology can break away from news production practices that were focused on simple fact delivery, and by greatly reducing the personnel, time, and costs required for high-quality news, it can contribute to the revitalization of investigative and in-depth reporting.
To achieve this, Kim concluded his lecture by proposing the need for retraining journalists to adapt to the AI era and for societal support for media organizations.
