A director at a law firm stated that the parent currently with the child holds a decisive advantage in custody proceedings. One verified incident involved the paternal in-laws hiding a child for over five months during divorce proceedings, ultimately resulting in custody being granted to the husband. Other instances have surfaced where a parent's obstruction of the other's access to the child has led to them being denied custody.

Dr. Choi Sang-cheol, a specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry, noted the need for systems to compensate for the lack of role models when a child is raised by only one parent. The instrumentalization of children amidst parental conflict is identified as a significant cause of psychological distress.
