SK Telecom and Ericsson signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the 19th for cooperation in Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based network technology. The two companies are embarking on network innovation using AI technology to advance 5G and prepare for the 6G era. Through this agreement, they have established a practical cooperation framework to apply innovative technologies to the 5G environment and lay the groundwork for 6G research and standardization.

The scope of cooperation includes AI-based Radio Access Network (AI-RAN), open and autonomous networks, security, 6G standardization, and future technologies.

In the AI-RAN field, they will pursue improvements in network performance and energy efficiency through technology that enables AI to learn and predict channel environments for resource management. In open and autonomous networks, research will focus on automation to enhance operational efficiency even in environments where equipment from different manufacturers is mixed. The security area will bolster terminal protection and enhance real-time threat response capabilities. In 6G standardization and future technologies, the plan is to secure leadership in the global technology ecosystem through joint research on frequency strategies, massive MIMO technologies, and Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) technologies.

Ryu Taek-gi, Head of Network Technology at SK Telecom, and Maarten E. Lenaers, Head of Ericsson Korea, expressed their commitment to securing technological leadership in the next-generation communication field through global standardization and trials.
