Yoon Suk-yeol is set to appear in court on the 23rd for trial over charges of disseminating false information during the 20th presidential election. The Seoul Central District Court will hold the first hearing at 2 p.m. The prosecution alleges that Yoon made false statements regarding allegations involving Yoon Mo, the former head of the Yongsan National Tax Service, and Jeon Sung-bae, also known as 'Geonjin Beopsa.' Yoon was indicted on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act for allegedly disseminating false information concerning Yoon Mo and Jeon Sung-bae during his time as the People Power Party's presidential candidate in December of last year.

The prosecution considers Yoon's statement during a Kwanhun Club debate in December 2021 that he had never introduced a lawyer to Mr. Yoon, and his remark in an interview with the Buddhist Leaders Forum in January of the following year that he met Mr. Jeon as an acquaintance of a party official, not through his spouse's introduction, as false information.

If Yoon is convicted and fined over 1 million won for these charges, the People Power Party would be required to return approximately 39.7 billion won in election expenses.
