Busan Ranks 23rd in Global Financial Centers, 16th in Fintech
Busan City has achieved its highest-ever performance, ranking 23rd in the Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI), which assesses the financial competitiveness of major global cities, and 16th in fintech, a sector utilizing new technologies. Busan's GFCI ranking has steadily risen from 37th in the first half of 2023, to 27th in 2024, and 24th in 2025, securing the 23rd position this time. Having successfully entered the top 20 for five consecutive times, Busan ranked 10th among Asian cities, following Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Dubai, and Tokyo. This result demonstrates Busan's potential to grow into a global financial hub.
In the 'Fintech Index,' which indicates digital financial competitiveness, Busan ranked 16th out of 116 cities worldwide, climbing six spots from the previous assessment. This shows the city has secured strong growth momentum as a digital financial center.
These achievements are the result of creating a differentiated ecosystem, including the completion of the third phase of the Busan International Financial Center (BIFC), expanding marine and digital financial infrastructure, concentrating global shipping brokers, increasing the industry innovation policy fund, and designating a blockchain regulatory-free zone and attracting the KDX consortium.
Busan City plans to continue its growth trajectory by specializing the third phase of BIFC into a 'Digital Finance Valley' where fintech, blockchain, and artificial intelligence (AI) companies will gather. The city aims to leap forward to become a top 20 global financial city and a top 5 Asian financial city by 2030.
