Lee Jae-myung Emphasizes 'Peace as Security' on West Sea Defense Day

President Lee Jae-myung attended the 'West Sea Defense Day' ceremony at Daejeon National Cemetery and emphasized, 'Peace is the ultimate security.' President Lee paid tribute to soldiers who died in the West Sea, including in the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong, the sinking of the Cheonan, and the shelling of Yeonpyeong, stating, 'Creating a peaceful Korean Peninsula is the mission left by our heroes.'

President Lee declared, 'Peace is sustenance, livelihood, and the ultimate security,' reaffirming his commitment to both strong defense capabilities and peace-building, and also revealed his intention to transform the West Sea from a space of confrontation into one of shared prosperity.

Alongside this peace-oriented approach, the government is concurrently pursuing the establishment of a 'smart elite strong military' through fostering the defense industry and increasing defense spending. The realization of self-reliant defense through the recovery of wartime operational control is also one of the goals officially presented by the government.
