People Power Party Appoints Park Deok-heum as Nomination Committee Chairman

The People Power Party has appointed four-term lawmaker Park Deok-heum as chairman of its Nomination Management Committee and officially launched the committee, which consists of eight members. Under Chairman Park Deok-heum, Secretary-General Jeong Hee-yong will serve as vice chairman, and lawmakers Kwak Gyu-taek, Seo Chun-ho, Lee Jong-wook, and Lee So-hee have joined as members from within the legislature. From outside the legislature, Choi Ki-sik, the party chapter chairman for Gwacheon-Uiwang in Gyeonggi Province, and spokesperson Ham In-kyung have been included to ensure balance. Choi Bo-yoon, senior spokesperson, told reporters immediately after the Supreme Council meeting, "The Nomination Management Committee has been formed with a total of eight members."

Regarding the background of Park Deok-heum's appointment, senior spokesperson Choi Bo-yoon explained, "He is a person who has earned significant trust within the party, and considering that nomination-related matters in Chungbuk Province need to be re-determined, we judged him to be a regionally appropriate candidate." He added, "We expect nomination management to be carried out stably with the inclusion of lawmakers as committee members."

Choi, the senior spokesperson, emphasized, "We believe stable management is necessary to prevent legal disputes related to nominations, and therefore, we have appointed individuals with legal experience as committee members."

In addition to the formation of the Nomination Management Committee, the Supreme Council meeting on this day also passed a resolution to establish a 'Citizen Nomination Jury' that will review strategic nomination candidates. It was decided that the majority of the jury members would be young people. An agenda item was also passed to exempt current party regulations that require party chapter chairmen to resign from their positions if they run for public office.
