Hong Joon-pyo, former Mayor of Daegu, publicly declared his support for former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum on the 17th, arguing that "an administrator, not a politician, must be elected." Through his social media, the former mayor stated, "A metropolitan mayor is an administrator, not a fighter," adding, "If it is beneficial for Daegu, an capable administrator, not a political operator, must be chosen."
He pointed out that while Busan secured benefits such as the Gadeok New Airport and the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, becoming a 'swing voter' region, Daegu is "treated like an abandoned child by the Democratic Party administration" due to its "reckless voting." On March 25th, Hong also posted on social media about his past connections with Kim, criticizing the logic that "the People Power Party wins even if you just stick a stick in the ground" as "mere idle amusement by politicians who do not understand the desperation of Daegu citizens."
Within the People Power Party, backlash arose from across factions. National Assembly member Kim Dae-sik expressed doubt on a radio appearance, asking, "He served twice as party leader, floor leader, and presidential candidate; surely he wouldn't go that far?" National Assembly member Jin Jong-oh wrote on social media, "Endless spite," adding, "One's innate personality can't be helped."
In a broadcast interview on April 1st, Kim Boo-kyum stated his intention to request a meeting with Hong Joon-pyo soon, saying, "I need to hear about what he tried to do, what was lacking, and what was blocked."
