Lee Cheol-woo, a preliminary candidate for Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor from the People Power Party, visited the Sangju area on April 8th to engage with local residents and introduce his pledge for the 'Senior Health Meal Project.' The pledge, presented at the Sangju Branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, aims to establish a meal system that supports the nutritional management and health maintenance of the elderly.

One of the core pillars of the five development pledges announced by Candidate Lee on April 8, 2026, is the expansion of the transportation network. The plan includes fostering Sangju as a central city for railway networks through the early commencement of the Mungyeong-Sangju-Gimcheon section of the Jungbunaeryuk Railway and the construction of a cross-country railway. An integrated transportation network connecting roads and railways is also included in the plan.

In the agricultural sector, the goal is to create a national-level agricultural research and development hub by relocating the Gyeongbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Services, completing the Agricultural Technopark, and promoting the establishment of GAIST (Korea Agricultural Science and Technology Institute). Efforts will be made to advance agricultural industrialization through the establishment of a smart farming platform and ag-tech company complexes. The plan also includes increasing agricultural added value by building new food processing industrial complexes and distribution centers, and establishing an export logistics system linked to the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport.

In the industrial sector, the strategy is to strengthen the region's growth engines by establishing specialized industrial complexes for secondary batteries and advanced materials, pursuing designation as an Opportunity Development Zone, and by modernizing aging industrial complexes and supporting startup initiatives linked to industry-academia cooperation.

Preliminary candidate Lee Cheol-woo stated, "We will maximize Sangju's potential through the convergence of agriculture, transportation, and industry to make it a key city in the central region." He added, "We will fundamentally transform the urban structure and drive sustainable regional development."
