BTS Concert in Goyang Expected to Trigger Accommodation Boom
With reservations at local accommodations surging ahead of the BTS concert in Goyang, expectations are mounting for a 'BTS special boom.' Reservation inquiries are flooding in not only for establishments near the Goyang Stadium, where the concert will be held, but also for inns and hotels throughout the city, signaling a positive impact on the local economy. By the concert dates, from April 9th to 12th, most accommodations in Goyang are already nearly fully booked. Digital travel platform Agoda reported that searches for accommodations in the Goyang area increased approximately eightfold compared to the previous week following the announcement of the BTS world tour schedule. This three-day BTS concert is expected to draw over 120,000 visitors to Goyang City.
Goyang City anticipates that the concert will stimulate spending not only in the accommodation sector but also in food services, cafes, convenience stores, and tourism. Amidst an economic slowdown and weakened consumer sentiment, the large-scale concert is seen as an opportunity to revitalize stagnant commercial districts. It is expected to provide tangible benefits to the overall local economy through the promotion of spending in accommodation, dining, and tourism.
To this end, Goyang is operating 'Goyang Contrip,' which analyzes tourist routes and timings to suggest tailored commercial areas, and will run a 'Big Sale Week to Revitalize Local Economy' from April 6th to 15th to boost the regional economy. During this period, 156 businesses will participate, offering various benefits such as discounts and gifts.
Goyang City is also stepping up safety management. Pre-inspections and emergency repairs have been completed for roads and facilities near the concert venue, and on-site response will be enhanced on concert days with a dedicated enforcement team from the Safety and Construction Division. Pedestrian environment management will also be strengthened in key commercial areas where visitor movement is anticipated.
The Goyang Tourism Center will hold a special exhibition from April 7th to 12th, featuring BTS's handprints and autographed messages.
Goyang Mayor Lee Dong-hwan stated, "We have prepared various linked programs so that visitors coming to Goyang for this major concert can experience different parts of the city and lead to spending." He added, "We will continue to strive to ensure that the concert industry leads local commercial districts and that its economic ripple effects spread."
