Local Elections Just Two Months Away

With about two months left until the nationwide simultaneous local elections on June 3, the Democratic Party has confirmed Jeong Won-oh, former district mayor, as its candidate for Seoul mayor and lawmaker Jeon Jae-soo for Busan mayor. The party is rushing its election preparations by early deciding on candidates for Seoul and Busan, considered key battlegrounds for this election. Seoul mayoral candidate Jeong Won-oh declared he would run as part of a 'one team'.

Through these nomination results, the Democratic Party is preparing for the election at a relatively faster pace compared to the People Power Party. The Democratic Party has now completed nominations for 10 out of 16 metropolitan government heads nationwide.

In addition, the Democratic Party is preparing nominations for the National Assembly by-elections to be held concurrently with the June 3 local elections. They are persuading Ha Jung-woo, Senior Secretary for AI Future Planning at the Presidential Office, to run in the Buk District A by-election in Busan. The Democratic Party is also announcing policies focused on daily life, such as easing speed limits in school zones during late-night hours.
