Biological Parents Arrested for Abuse of 3-Year-Old in Yangju
Police have made an emergency arrest of a 3-year-old child's biological parents on suspicion of child abuse in Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province, following the child being rushed to the hospital with severe injuries and unconsciousness. The investigation is ongoing.
The incident began around 6:44 PM on the 9th in Okjeong-dong, Yangju City, when authorities received a report that "the baby was crying and convulsing." Responders who arrived at the scene confirmed the child had spontaneous breathing but was unconscious. Fire department officials stated that bruising was observed on the child's jaw at the time of transport.
Around 9:30 PM on the 9th, hospital staff reported to the 112 emergency line, stating that "child abuse is suspected and there is a head trauma." The child, identified as A, underwent brain surgery but remains in critical condition and has not regained consciousness.
Based on the hospital's findings and witness statements, police made an emergency arrest of the child's biological father and mother, both in their 20s, at the emergency room around 11 PM on the 9th. Police investigation revealed that a previous child abuse suspicion report was filed against the father in December of last year, but he was cleared of charges after an investigation by police and prosecutors.
