Samsung Electronics Regains Top Spot in Q1 Smartphone Sales
Samsung Electronics has reclaimed the No. 1 position in the global smartphone market for the first quarter of this year, recording a 22% market share and surpassing Apple. According to Omdia's figures, Samsung Electronics secured a 22% share in Q1, ahead of Apple's 20%. This marks Samsung Electronics' recapture of the top spot after it yielded the annual sales lead to Apple last year.
Market research firm Omdia pointed to robust demand for its premium products and strong pre-order performance for the Galaxy S26 series as key factors behind Samsung Electronics' Q1 comeback. Omdia estimated that pre-orders for the Galaxy S26 series rose by over 10% compared to the previous generation.
As in the previous year, the smartphone market in Q1 was clearly dominated by a duopoly of Samsung Electronics and Apple. Their combined market share reached 42%, a 3 percentage point increase from the same period last year.
