Trump Highly Praises Palantir's Technological Prowess

Former US President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, in early April 2026, lauding the combat capabilities of private company Palantir Technologies. These remarks came shortly after the accidental bombing of a girls' primary school in Minaab, southern Iran, which prompted Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to place Palantir on its list of retaliatory targets, following accusations that Palantir's AI system 'Maven' was involved in the incident.

Palantir, co-founded by Peter Thiel and Alex Karp, built a 'digital nervous system' based on data models rooted in ancient Greek philosophical ontology. This system analyzes vast amounts of unstructured data, including satellite imagery and communication records, in real-time to aid commanders' immediate understanding and decision-making. Palantir's technological capabilities were utilized in the January 2026 raid on Caracas, Venezuela, and the February Iranian airstrikes, where it helped identify and prioritize over 1,000 targets, thereby increasing operational success rates.

On February 28, 2026, the US and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran, hitting over 1,000 targets within the first 24 hours. Palantir's AI platform integrated and analyzed various data, including drone reconnaissance, to rapidly identify and prioritize targets, enhancing mission success. However, on the first day of this operation, a missile struck a girls' primary school in Minaab, southern Iran, killing 175 children. Following accusations that Palantir's AI system 'Maven' was involved, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps added Palantir to its list of retaliatory targets. Project Maven was originally initiated by Google in 2017 but was abandoned due to employee backlash; Palantir subsequently took over and completed the project.

Palantir's main platforms, 'Gotham' and 'Foundry,' excel in target identification and battlefield analysis, and logistics/predictive maintenance and natural language decision support, respectively, combining LLM and ontology. 'Foundry,' officially launched in partnership with KT in 2024, has strengthened operational simulation and command support functions. Anthropic partnered with Palantir in 2024 and secured a $200 million AI contract with the US Department of Defense in 2025.

Palantir's entry into the South Korean market is already underway. HD Hyundai has been adopting Palantir platforms in the shipbuilding, offshore, and energy sectors since 2021. LG CNS has established a dedicated organization for Foundry and AI supply, while KT serves as the partner officially launching the Palantir platform in the Korean market in 2024.

Palantir's core concept, ontology, serves as a blueprint defining how all corporate and military data is connected and interpreted. If a specific vendor designs and controls this, migration to other platforms becomes virtually impossible. In the defense domain, the entire framework for battlefield assets, threat systems, unit formations, and sensor/weapon system integration is defined by the ontology. While alliances with the United States are crucial, entrusting the authority to interpret battlefield data raises serious concerns. In a crisis, the operational capabilities of the South Korean military could be halted by a single update from an American company. This is not merely a weapons purchase but a transfer of strategic sovereignty; ontology sovereignty can be considered equivalent to territorial sovereignty in the 21st century.
