Three-year-old dies in Yangju following head injury
A three-year-old child in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, who had been in a coma after sustaining head injuries, has ultimately died. The deceased child, identified as A, was taken to the hospital on the afternoon of the 9th after suffering head injuries at an apartment in Okjeong-dong, Yangju City.
Police launched an investigation upon being notified of the child's death by the hospital, aiming to determine the exact cause of death and the circumstances. The hospital that treated the child suspected child abuse and reported it to the police, leading police to make emergency arrests of A's parents, with the biological father, identified as B, being taken into custody. Police identified grounds for abuse allegations through methods such as mobile phone forensics, but a direct link to the injuries has not yet been confirmed. Police will conduct an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death and are considering changing the applicable charges.
Father B stated, "I heard a 'thud' sound, and when I went to check, the child was having a seizure," denying the allegations.
There was also a report of suspected child abuse concerning child A in December of last year, but it was dismissed without indictment after it was determined there were no signs of serious abuse.
