Gyeonggi Province Accelerates Transition to Cloud-Based Administrative System

Gyeonggi Province is fully pushing forward with the 'Cloud Computing System Construction Phase 2' project to enhance the processing speed and adaptability of its administrative services. Last year, the 'Cloud Computing System Construction Phase 1' project laid the groundwork for migrating 57 work systems to the cloud. Phase 1 established a management system for checking speed and stability and adopted an open-source Kubernetes-based architecture, avoiding vendor lock-in, thereby preparing for flexible integration with private clouds in the future.

This year's Phase 2 project focuses on actual service improvements. An additional 21 systems, including Gyeonggi Province's integrated portal (gg.go.kr), will be migrated to the cloud, with server capacity expanded for stable operation even during sudden user surges. The integrated portal will be revamped using a 'cloud-native' approach, dividing service functions into smaller units and adopting a structure that allows for rapid modifications and additions as needed. This will enhance the speed and convenience of online services frequently used by citizens. Data backup and disaster recovery systems will be strengthened to ensure swift restoration in case of system issues. A unified monitoring system will also be established to oversee all systems at a glance.

Unlike Phase 1, which focused on establishing an internal cloud foundation, Phase 2 aims to expand the scope of utilization to the province's public sector by creating a foundation for Gyeonggi Province's public institutions and municipal/county governments to share and utilize cloud resources. Gyeonggi Province plans to enhance the efficiency of information resource utilization by progressively establishing joint operating standards that allow for the simultaneous use of its own public cloud and public clouds. A provincial official stated that following the establishment of the public cloud foundation and open-source-centric architecture this year, the province will strengthen cloud service expansion and operational stability next year. This will bolster the administrative infrastructure capable of agile responses to the rapidly evolving demands of AI.
