National Bio-Innovation Committee Launches with Enhanced Decision-Making Power, Prime Minister to Preside
The National Bio-Innovation Committee, chaired by the Prime Minister, officially launched on April 16, marking its distinct characteristic of possessing 'decision-making' authority to finalize policies and projects. Moving beyond its previous operational framework centered on deliberative functions, the committee aims to build a unified governance structure for the bio industry, empowered by its capacity to substantially determine policies and projects.
Comprising approximately 30 members, including vice ministers and ministers from relevant government departments along with 23 private sector experts, the committee, headed by the Prime Minister, will push for comprehensive support across the bio industry's lifecycle and the creation of global achievements.
The National Bio-Innovation Committee plans to sequentially release strategies starting with the 'Republic of Korea Bio Innovation Strategy' within the first half of the year, followed by the 'K-Beauty Industry Development Strategy' and 'Bio Data Innovation Measures' in the latter half.
The Office for Government Policy Coordination announced the 'Biohealth Sector Regulatory Rationalization Roadmap,' which includes measures such as redesigning innovation-friendly regulations and supporting rapid market entry to strengthen international competitiveness in the biohealth sector. This roadmap includes 24 initiatives across four areas.
